Heros Do Exist!
I was trapped inside a house and all alone.

Only hours after my initial inspiration for this site and the work that I hope to accomplish here, I heard about a dog trapped in a mostly abandoned house. Workers had attempted to access the house to do maintenance and repair work. Upon entry they knew there was a dog upstairs. They cautiously went up to assess the situation and found that the dog was barricaded in the master bedroom. Hungry and scared the dog has been left there for days and weeks with no cooling in July in New Mexico. The house itself was repulsive, full of trash, rotting food, feces and all boiling hot. Attempts to have animal control rescue the dog on Friday were unsuccessful. The workers were not able to either due to the dog seeming very aggressive.
However, the animal control worker (our 1st hero) did call about the situation after hours and arrangements were made to try to rescue the dog on Saturday. Apparently, the original home owner was still listed instead of the bank so this was causing issues for animal control to enter the house. It was going to be tricky to coordinate having a police officer and animal control show up at the house at the same time.
In the morning we drove out and called the police for an officer to assist in the dog rescue. Surprisingly, it didn't take too long for the officer (our 2nd hero) to arrive. After a brief discussion, it was determined that a detective would need to also be present. While waiting for the second officer we alerted animal control that the police were going to be ready shortly. Once more, thankfully, the second officer (our 3rd hero) and animal control made it to the house relatively quickly and the rescue proceeded. It took some time and the doggie was howling so loudly! I could smell the stench from the house all the way into my vehicle where I waited.
Finally, the dog emerges from the house with a tail wagging! I'm sure terrified but the fresh air must have been so wonderful! Now on to better things!
--Please, if you know of animals being abused in your neighborhood, if you feel safe to, call and get them help. Sadly, many of the neighbors spoken to were aware of this situation and literally did nothing for this animal.--
